When I first started writing this blog I had promised myself that I would update at least once a week.
That was 6 months ago.
I do apologize for falling off the "blogging" wagon. I promise, though, that I have a good excuse!
I got a job!!
Between the first entry of looking for a job here in "The D" and now, I've actually found a job in "The D".
I'm currently employed as an IT help desk agent for a large corporation. Unfortunately I can't say which one- I'm under confidentiality. Anyways, I started mid-September and I LOVE it. The pay is lousy, the hours are long and weird and the work is grueling. But I LOVE IT. I feel like I'm helping people and that's definitely something I love.
Since I'm now able to "survive" in the D I've decided to switch gears a bit. Starting today and every Monday I'll be doing a special feature called "Motor City Mondays". This feature will highlight some of my favorie places, activies, restaurants, etc. around the Motor City and surrounding suburbs. I'll be asking friends on my Facebook for suggestions- so look for something new and different every week.
Onto today's feature:
The Detroit Insitute of Arts.
The DIA is one of the city's gems. It's located downtown in the Museum and Culture District. It's literally a stone's throw away from Wayne State University, the Detroit Science Center and a lot of great restaurants. The best part of the DIA? The building. The DIA was founded in 1887 and has been at it's location on Woodward since 1927. The museum features some of the most breathtaking artwork, free concerts, a great cafe and gift shop just to name a few things. The greatest part of the DIA- it has free admission for Detroit residents every Friday and is open from 10-10 that day as well. I definitely recommend the DIA if you're a resident or a visitor. There are always new exhibits, kids activities on Sunday and free concerts on Friday too! You can find out more information at http://www.dia.org/.
So that's it for today! Hope you check out the DIA and I will be back in a few days with more updates!
Trying to survive in the D
This blog was originally created in 2008 with the intention to chronicle my daily life as a graduate student at Central Michigan. Now since I've graduated I've decided to revamp the blog and focus on my life back in Detroit after a 7 yr absence and also my search for my first "big girl" job.

Still Looking...No Luck
I've been home for exactly one month and two weeks... I've gone on 2 interviews and a shadow... I've applied to probably 50 positions and yet nothing. For those who know me best I'm usually a pretty optimistic person and I try to keep my head up. Unfortuantely, this whole job search and lack of employment phase is really getting me down. I'm trying to stay positive and those around me are trying to help but it's really not working :(
I applied for a job with the State yesterday. Hopefully I'll hear back soon.
In other news... Gabe and I are heading up north Friday for Kristen and Mike's wedding and also some alone time. After the summer we've already had it's definitely needed!!
Have a good weekend everyone! I'll update Wednesday!!
